LEGAL DOCUMENTS :
You will need to provide the following documents:
Passport;
Certified copy of Birth Certificate;
If previously married - original copy of decree absolute & previous marriage certificate;
If previously widowed - certified copy of death certificate of deceased partner & certified copy of original marriage certificate;
Citizens of some countries may need to provide 'single status certificates'.
There is no minimum residency requirement to get married in Gibraltar.
WEDDING VENUES :
The marriage may be solemnized or contracted in:
The Registry Office;
In Church;
Other place of worship;
Hotel;
Gardens.
AGE OF MARRIAGE :
Minimum age of marriage : 16 years
If below 18 years at time of marriage, you must produce the written consent of both sets of parents or legal guardians. The consent to marry must be valid by the law of the country where you are domiciled.
CHANGE OF NAME :
If you have changed your name by deed poll or some other way, you must submit your original change of name deed.
MEMBERS OF ARMED FORCES :
Service personnel should ensure that a Commanding Officer’s Consent is obtained in writing before submitting an application for a Marriage Licence.
APPLYING FOR MARRIAGE LICENCE :
Once you have chosen a date for your marriage, you may telephone My Gibraltar on 0871 666 0055 or email the Wedding Planner on kay@cityvacations.co.uk to make a booking for the day of your choice. The booking will initially be a provisional booking and will be made after availability has been checked. In case your preferred date is unavailable, you will be invited to choose an alternative date. A time for the wedding will be allocated once all paperwork has been completed and the Special Licence has been ordered. At this stage, the booking for the marriage becomes a firm booking.
THE MARRIAGE CEREMONY :
You will attend before the Marriage Registrar on a date that is mutually convenient. You will need some identification such as passport or identity card which bears a recent photograph.
You will need two witnesses for your marriage ceremony which can be provided by My Gibraltar in the event of no guests attending. The ceremony will be conducted in English. If you do not speak English, please ask our Wedding Planners to provide you with an interpreter.
Photography is permitted during the second part of the ceremony ie: the exchange of rings (if any) and the signing of the Register. My Gibraltar can arrange the photographer to be present at your wedding. My Gibraltar can also provide any special floral arrangements that you would like to order for the Marriage room for your wedding.
MARRIAGES OUTSIDE THE REGISTRY OFFICE :
You can have a civil marriage outside the Registry Office at one of the venues already approved by the Marriage Registrar for this purpose. Approved venues include:
Botanical Gardens;
Caleta Hotel;
Rock Hotel;
Elliot Hotel.
WHEN CAN YOU GET MARRIED :
Marriages can be held Mon-Fri at the Registry Office and on Tue, Wed & Thu outside the Registry. You must notify My Gibraltar as soon as possible of the wedding venue of your choice to avoid disappointment.
