The Rock Hotel

Probably the best known of all Gibraltar's Hotels, The Rock Hotel is an iconic landmark nestled into the side of the Rock. It is possible to walk into town from The Rock, but coming back it is all uphill so perhaps a taxi on the return. And once you are back why not laze away a sunny afternoon around the very private swimming pool. The pool at The Rock is just the other side of the road and backs onto the Alameda Gardens with private hotel guest entrance. The pool is a secluded oasis, almost a private extension to the famous gardens where you can relax, unwind and forget the hectic pace of modern life. The pool area has a fully licensed bar and houses a magnificent Moroccan dining tent where you can enjoy an evening barbeque and other Moroccan dishes and entertainment.

The hotels main restaurant boasts 2 rosettes in the 2008 AA guide and serves fantastic food with Iberian and North African influences.

Prior to our last trip I would have said excellent. However, on this occasion we were diverted to Malaga airport because of bad weather and although the Captain did tell us that we were having to circle around Gibraltar, we were unaware of the diversion until we landed in Malaga.

There was no one to meet us in Malaga airport when we arrived and were left to our own devises to find out where to go to get a transfer bus (thank heavens for the Thompson rep who was there and willing to help us out as far as she could).

When we finally arrived at Gibraltar we found that our names were not on the transfer list with Blands - luckily we had the documentation to hand to show the driver that we had paid for the transfer (if there had been no other people to pick up, the driver would not have been sent and we would have been stranded).

The hotel (The Rock) is well into its referbishment and is excellent. The rest of the holiday was great and we will be booking with you again.

I am of course sorry to hear that you had a few problems with your last trip, particularly given that you would previously have rated us as "excellent". With regards to the flight being diverted, this is unfortunately something that happens from time to time depending on weather conditions and other factors. Without knowing the details of your booking, it may be that the lack of someone to meet you was a direct result of the re-routing. That said, this should not have happened and we would of course be very happy to discuss your case further with Blands.

I am nonetheless pleased to hear that the rest of your stay was enjoyable (particularly that you enjoyed the almost completely refurbished Rock Hotel) and that you will consider booking with us again.

Transfers etc very good but the early flight meant we were at The Rock Hotel at 11.30am to be told the check in time was 2pm. Whilst they kept our bags, they sent us away to wait till 2pm.
Breakfast staff very poor. No matter how you wanted your eggs, they had to be ordered separately and when they came after 7 to 8 minutes, they were not cooked, sent them back and the replacements were not cooked so we just left them at the side of our table. Staff members walked by continuously but did not enquire re the eggs. Next day we ordered scrambled but they were not done properly and we could see other tables had not eaten theirs, in the end we gave up. My Gibraltar was good but next time we will stay somewhere else

The Rock has undergone renovation to improve their service and therefore it is even more upsetting to read that they have let you down.

Apart from the fact that we had not known that the hotel was being refurbished before we went as didn't receive an email to tell us, My Gibraltar were on the ball about sorting out the problem we had with the Rock Hotel and we got upgraded to a better room so we were fairly happy with the outcome.

No problems with the service i received , flight and seating as requested , Hotel rock was what i wanted B-Fast food a good choice ,the room was as i asked for ,i:e view of the bay and part of the town , the last 300 hnd yards would be a problem for less able bodied people , with the steepness of the hill from town to hotel , all O.k except the very pleasant driver had me waiting over 45 mins after pick up time to the air port, he apologise"d profusely ,but other than that i would recommend you to anyone thinking of going to Gib , including myself , Ha , Cheers .
